Try these out at Howl!! Designed by a woman, for women, who hike like women. Womens backcountry snowshoes are slightly smaller than mens backcountry snowshoes, weigh less, and are therefore easier to maneuver off trail. The Leadville 29 (previously Gold 15) is specifically designed to accommodate a shorter, more narrow stride and makes carrying a pack easier and more comfortable. Even if you’re carrying the wine and cheese for the rest of the she-pack, you’ll appreciate the unique design that makes it easier to hike and besides that, if you get there first, you get first choice on the precious contents of that knapsack on your back. The exaggerated tear drop shape allows your feet to pass by each other without causing you to change the way you normally walk. This simple adjustment to the frame shape makes your hips happy and allows you to focus on the outdoors and your time on the backcountry.
Try out these snowshoes at Howl!!! Womens trail snowshoes should be different than men’s. For that matter, any model of women’s snowshoes should reflect the fact that women are smaller and have shorter, more narrow strides. Did you also know that Crescent Moon was the first to make a series of snowshoes for women, designed by a woman, who also happens to be the co-founder of the company? The Gold 13 Trail is for women up to 165lbs and foot sizes less than 12 (W). It’s lightweight, very easy to maneuver and features a binding system so well designed and functional it has been recognized as the “best” snowshoe on the market by most outside magazines at some point during the last 22 years Crescent Moon has been making it. That’s one small step for women, one giant snowshoe leap for women-kind. The Gold 13 features a frame which has been bent with a very steep nose and tapered tail. Because of this unique teardrop shape, with each step, the shoes will clear away from themselves within the distance of your own natural stride without forcing you to adapt a new walking style, like traditionally shaped snowshoes do. The Gold 13’s are exceptionally responsive, lightweight, and comfortable on any trail.

Here is what Crescent Moon says about the Luna: Recommended as a first pair, AND a second pair, for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, dog walkers, runners, and people who love the snow. Luna Snowshoes were introduced in 2017 after our co-founder Tamara Laug, a life-long runner, was inspired by the rocker-shaped Hoka running shoes. We wanted to make a snowshoe that was comfortable, lightweight, quiet, and made snowshoeing more like wearing a pair of your favorite running or hiking shoes. Snowshoes that both beginners and enthusiasts alike could appreciate. In short, nothing less than disrupting the entire category of traditional snowshoes. Crescent Moon has been making snowshoes for 22 years, and the only one to make a snowshoe made of expandable polymer - the same material used in every running and athletic shoe in the world. But we knew we were on to something. So, we started making prototypes out of packing sheet foam, carving, sanding and forming them by hand to test the concept. We called our friend Dan Laska, who was the lead designer at Crocs, and asked him to help us make “the best recreational snowshoes" on the market. Two years in the making and lots of time and days on snow, Luna was conceived. We produced our first Luna snowshoe and introduced it at the 2017 Outdoor Retailer trade show in Denver. It won every Best of Gear award and Best of Show there was. (It's still winning awards). It was all the buzz, and still is within the industry. In 2018 we made some changes to the first version by adding ice-spikes to the bottom of the shoes for better traction. In 2019 after listening to our rental customers, like the Breckenridge Nordic Center, we made changes to the foot bed and traction elements, along with a reconfigured harness. The staff told us they wanted to replace ALL of their traditional rental shoes with foam because they're simple, intuitive, unbreakable, durable, recyclable, and affordable. But the most compelling reason for the Luna snowshoes we heard from the Nordic centers is that their customers loved them. “the best lightweight snowshoes" they'd ever had on their fleet. We wanted to make snowshoeing more intuitive for those who hadn't considered it before, and to rekindle the joy of snowshoeing for those who had equipment that just didn't inspire them anymore. We've been snowshoeing for decades and traditional snowshoes are awkward, heavy, clunky and with each step, you experience an unnatural hesitation between taking a step and the snowshoe catching up with a weird heel slapping noise. Or, they drag along the ground. None of that happens with the foam snowshoes.
